James Leroy Metcalfe was born on April 27, 1950 in Albert Lea, the son of Thomas and Ila Tukua Metcalfe. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. Jim attended Albert Lea High School. He worked as a carpenter for various companies including the Joseph Co., Larson Construction, Streaters, and Winnebago. Jim loved fishing and playing pool. He also enjoyed his garden, and was a Vikings and Twins fan. Survivors include his children: Jaade and her husband Ronnie King of Albert Lea, Felicia and her husband Michael Mead of Burnsville, and Jacob and his wife Kristina Metcalfe of Shoreview; grandchildren Sabra, Emily, Julia, and Austin King, Jack, Sam, Sean, and Quinlan Mead, and Matthew Milless; sisters Betty and her husband Roger Hermanson of Albert Lea, and Shirley Torsch of Albert Lea, brother Donald Metcalfe of Albert Lea; brothers-in-law Paul Andersen of Waseca, and Neil Severson of Albert Lea; aunts Alma Phillips of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Margaret Stuart of Stillwater, MN; many nieces and nephews; one special nephew Mitch Metcalfe of Arizona; long-time friends Larry Johnson and Mike Boone; and his faithful companion Soda Pop.. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, his brothers Dwayne in infancy, Thomas Jr. in 1971, Dale Edwin in 1994; his sisters Phyllis Andersen in 1996 and Mary Ann Severson in 1997; and his sister-in-law Joyce Metcalfe.
