Jack Arlen Kalstad was born at Grand Rapids, MN, on October 5, 1934, to Carl W. and Zelma D. Seuser Kalstad. He grew up and spent his life in the Glenville area, except for 2 years in the United States Army, spending time in Germany. On March 19, 1960, Jack was united in marriage to Judi Conn in Albert Lea. Jack farmed, sheared sheep and goats, and worked at All Tanks, Speltz Elevator and Shell Rock Ag. He was a familiar face in the farming community, working with fertilizer, and delivering feed. He was often referred to as a "Jack of all Trades." Jack enjoyed animals of all kinds, raising Boer goats in later years. He and his family enjoyed raising and showing their many Quarter Horses and participating in activities such as Saddle Club and 4-H. Special times for him were spent with his four grandsons and his dog, "Sage." Jack was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Albert Lea Elks Club. He had served on the Glenville School Board, Freeman Town Board, where he served as clerk for many years, Round Prairie Church Council, the County ASC Committee, and the Freeborn County 4-H Executive Council. Jack and Judi enjoyed traveling and spending time in Wyoming. He especially enjoyed all types of outdoor activities and hunting and fishing, both locally and in Wyoming and Montana. Turkey hunting was his latest favorite. Survivors include his wife, Judi; daughters, Kellie and her husband, Gordy Thompson and Kari Lenort and her special friend, Joel Busch; grandsons, Jack and Sam Thompson and Cole and Ross Lenort; mother-in-law, Shirley Conn; sisters-in-law, Virginia Nagel and Linda and her husband, Don Bryson; brother-in-law, Jim and his wife, Ruth Conn; nieces and nephews: Christine Studier, Catherine Voss, Teresa Malakowsky, Eric Bryson, Rebecca Bryson, Bill Conn, and Liz Conn; sister, Wilma Mellum; step grand-children, Cindy and her husband, Brad Helgeson and Tara and Tori and Terry Thompson and Drew; special great nieces and nephews: Andrew and Alex Studier, Jessica and Elijah Riggle, Christian Voss, and Emily, Amelia, Avery, and Sophia Malakowsky; special cousin, Elizabeth Burns and her children: Katie Martinez, John Burns, and Julia Kelly; and endless friends and relatives. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul, father-in-law, Edmond Conn, and niece, Carin Riggle. Memorials are preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice or Mayo Foundation for Cancer Research.
