Irma Barbara Hagen

August 5, 1911 — June 11, 2006

Irma Barbara Hagen was born August 5, 1911, to Bernhard and Marie Obermeyer Scherb in her parental home in Nunda Township. She was baptized August 8 in her home and confirmed at the Bear Lake Lutheran Church December 27, 1925. As a child, Irma desired to, and began milking cows when she was 5 years old and continued for years. Being the oldest of seven children, she was a kind of second mother and greatly loved by her six younger brothers. Irma attended Clover Valley School District #42 for 8 years, receiving many perfect attendance certificates. She married Manville Truman Hagen on July 30, 1955, at the Concordia Bear Lake Lutheran Church. They resided on their farm south of Twin Lakes for the next 50 years. Then Irma became a resident of St. John's Lutheran Home. Irma enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking and baking, and decorating cakes for special occasions. She also enjoyed working with flowers and gardening, canning and freezing fruits, vegetable, and preserves. Irma and Manville enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and relatives. She was an excellent seamstress and had made a new dress for the couple's 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. Irma also did quilting and handwork. She was a faithful Christian woman, who lovingly attended church regularly and was active in Lunder's women's groups, a member of the Ruth Naomi Circle, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Twin Lakes Senior Citizens. Survivors include her brothers, Paul and his wife, Adeline Scherb of Waverly, IA, and Martin and his wife, Mabel Scherb of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Scherb, Janet Scherb, and Gazena Hagen; and many nieces and nephews. Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manville in December 2005; her brothers: Philip, Eldo, Lucas, and Julius Scherb; sisters-in-law, Mildred Scherb and Marjorie Fure; and nephew, Gregory Scherb. Rather than sending acknowledgements, a donation will be made to Crossroads Community Hospice.
