Funeral services for Henry Waalkens, age 91 of Albert Lea will be held on Wednesday April 13, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Pastor Clayton Balsley will officiate. Burial will be at the Hollandale cemetery. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the services at the Chapel. Henry died on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center.
Henry Waalkens was born on Oct. 28, 1924, in Allison, Iowa, the son of John and Minje (Wiebrands) Waalkens. He attended and graduated from the Hollandale School. Henry served his country during WWII in the Air Force Marines. On Dec. 29, 1947, he was united in marriage to Matilda Karsjens at the Hollandale Reformed Church. Henry worked in construction, in carpentry, and concrete finishing. He also worked at the Hormel Plant in Austin. After the death of his wife, Henry married Inez Karsjens on Oct. 28, 1986, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. He was a member of the Hollandale Congregational Church for 38 years, Grace Baptist Church in Austin, and Calvary Baptist in Albert Lea. Henry enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time outdoors.
Henry is survived by his wife, Inez; children, Patricia Anderson, Faribault, MN, Larry (Paige) Waalkens, Forest Lake, MN, Loren Waalkens, Lake City, MN, and Lori (James) Otis, Wesley, IA; stepchildren, Susan (Randy) Cockeram, Marjorie Renchin, Jerry Bronson, all of Albert Lea, MN, Morris Bronson, Alden, MN, and Kathy Pesak, Hermitage, TN; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Matilda, daughter, Judy Renville, stepson, James (Cathy) Bronson, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and sons-in-law Arnie Anderson and Mark Langstaff.
