Henry Bakken was born August 14, 1908 to Haaken and Gergina Sime Bakken in Albert Lea. On March 12, 1932, he was united in marriage to Selma Anna Deno at the Central Freeborn Lutheran Parsonage. Henry had lived in the Albert Lea area his entire life except for two years in Alaska as a government employee on the Al-Can Highway. He had been a heavy-duty mechanic and was employed at Wilson & Co., Ford Co., and J. W. Craig Construction. After his retirement, Henry worked for Morreim Drainage. He was a member of the Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. Henry spent many hours working in his workshop and helping his family. He also enjoyed playing solitaire and cribbage. Survivors include his son, Donald and wife Carsie; daughter, Jeanette and husband Roger Groskreutz; daughter-in-law, Eunice Bakken; grandchildren: Tim and Lisa Bakken, Cynthia and Lonnie Otterson, Shari and Roger Manges, DeeAnn and Mike Iovenelli, Chad Groskreutz, and Layne and Charity Groskreutz; step grandchildren: Carisa Riles, Donald, Darrell, Dwayne, and Christine Twitty, and Mark and Terry Williamson; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Myrtle Peterson and Arlene "Babe" and husband Stanley Stadheim; brother-in-law, Jerome Hareid; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Bakken; Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Selma in 2002; his son, Harold in 2002; brothers: Howard, Elmer, and Junior; sisters: Orfa, Violet, and Genevieve; and a great-grandchild.
