Helen Marie Nelson was born on September 23, 1913 to Lester and Carrie (Anderson) Sweet in Alden. She grew up in the Alden area and attended school in Alden. Helen went on to attend a 2 years at the Mankato Teacherâs College following high school. On June 20, 1935 she was united in marriage to Leslie Nelson at Grace Lutheran Church Alden. Helen worked at Ebert Plumbing in Alden then as a bookkeeper/admitting clerk for Naeve Hospital for over 30 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden and was active in circle and ladies altar guild. Helen was also a member of the Alden Book Club. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and doing word search puzzles. Blessed be her memory.
Survivors include her brother, Howard Sweet; son, Charles W. (Rebecca) Nelson; daughter, Susan J. (Clifford) Staloch; grandchildren, Terry (Craig) Whelan, Laurel (Mark) Syvertson, Kari (Wade) Baseman, Christine (Blaine) McLaughlin, Michael (Jennifer) Staloch; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; brothers-in-law, Gordon Thompson, Roger Nelson and Curtis Nelson; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Nelson Thompson and Maxine Schaudt Sweet; and nephew, Bradley Sweet.
