Harriet Adeline (Steene) Fisk was born in Moscow, MN on April 16, 1915 to Christian and Josephine (Vanek) Steene. She was baptized in the home of her parents on the 20th day of August, 1916 by Rev. G.O. Forde. She was confirmed by Rev. A.C. Korsrud at the First Lutheran Church of Glenville, on the tenth day of June, 1928. She attended Glenville schools and went to work at an early age as a hired girl, helping out in private homes with cooking, cleaning and caring for children. Harriet and her sister Charlotte sang for many funerals and weddings at their church. Harriet married Garfield Fisk on December 22, 1938. They were married at the First Lutheran Church of Glenville by Rev. A.C. Korsrud. They had one daughter, Barbara Jean. They lived in Glenville their entire married life until Garfield passed away in 1999. Harriet then moved to Albert Lea and lived there until her death.
Harriet loved cooking and entertaining in her home and on the job. She worked in many different restaurants throughout her life, cooking, baking and waitressing. She, along with her life-long friend, Zora Crane, set up and operated the Glenville High School cafeteria when the school opened in the fall of 1956. Harriet loved preparing dinners for proms and special events at the school. She continued cooking and baking in her home well into her 90âs. At the age of 97, she could still roll pie crust, lefsa and sugar cookies.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara and her husband Neil of Albert Lea; granddaughters, Stephanie and her husband Randall Erdman of Albert Lea, and Stacia Lang of Los Angeles, CA; three great-grandsons, Beau Edwards, Joshua (Megan) Edwards and Miles Erdman; two great-great-grandsons, Ezra and Aiden Edwards and one great-great-granddaughter, Josephine Edwards; sister, Jewell Dahl; sister-in-law Carole Steene; nieces, Sandra (Wayne) Jensen, Cynthia Dahl, Linda Bighley and Deborah Schwab; nephews, Harold (Sandy) Steene, Larry (Bonnie) Steene, Gerald (Helen) Steene and Michael Steene.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garfield; brothers, Remore and Dennis Steene; sister, Charlotte Johnson; nieces, Kathleen Jo Steene and Carmen Elaine Mathewson; nephews, Bruce and Danny Dahl; sister-in-law, Ruth Sorbo; brothers-in-law, Duane Johnson and Chester Dahl.
Harriet will be greatly missed by her family.
Memorials are suggested to Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville or First Lutheran Church in Glenville.
