Harold Welter, age 93, passed away December 25, 2023, in Albert Lea, MN. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, on Friday, January 5th, at the Parish of Saints Joachim and Anne, in the Church of St. Mark (350 S. Atwood St., Shakopee, MN). Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will be at Shakopee Catholic Cemetery.
Harold Raymond Welter was born October 16, 1930, in Chanhassen, MN to Charles and Mary (Williams) Welter. He grew up in Chanhassen and received his schooling at Guardian Angels Catholic School. Harold joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and proudly served in Korea during the Korean War. After his discharge, Harold returned home and on April 23, 1960, he was united in marriage to Maryann Marshall. From this union, six children were born. The family made their home in the Shakopee area, where Harold farmed and worked as a machinist, retiring from Rahr Malting in 1997. Harold and Maryann later moved to Albert Lea, where they lived until the time of Harold’s death. Harold enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends, and wintering in Zapata, TX with Maryann.
He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher; Parents Charles and Mary Welter; in-laws Clarence and Elizabeth Marshall; brothers Joseph Welter, Frederick Welter and Michael Welter; brothers in law and sisters in law Robert Stang, Leon Flesner, Marie Welter; Joann and Walter Griepentrog, Charles Marshall and Clarence Marshall, Jr.
Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maryann Welter; children, Michelle (Hank) Aretz, Peter (Joyce) Welter, Patrick (Kathy) Welter, Ann (Chris) Harveaux, Mary (Bob) Riesgraf; grandchildren, Sarah (John) Christopherson, Matthew (Lexie) Welter, Andromakhe, Elijah and Isaac Harveaux, Alec Pauly, and Tara Riesgraf; twin great-grandsons (expected in February 2024); siblings, Richard Welter, Robert Welter, Dennis Welter, Leo (Margaret) Welter, Gratian (Judy) Welter, Bernadette Schmidt, Marlene Stang, Mary Anne Flesner, Arnella (Jerry) Koenig.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
