Harold “Babe” Brandt
Funeral services for Harold “Babe” L. Brandt, age 82, of Albert Lea will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Ascension Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Boorsma will officiate. Interment will be at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Myrtle, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold Leonard Brandt passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Harold was born August 11, 1935 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Arnold and Edna (Leschefski) Brandt.
For many years he was the baby of the family and was affectionately known as Babe. Babe met and married the LOVE OF HIS LIFE Lois Wahlers on March 25, 1956. They had an unending love that will bring them together in heaven. The lovebirds happily created a family by having six children. Babe so loved his children he chose to work 3 jobs so that they could be raised by their mom. He worked at Wilson’s Foods, Ray’s junkyard and was a much-loved school bus driver. Harold was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was an usher for many years, he later became a member at Ascension Lutheran Church.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Lois. His children, Terry Brandt, Tim (Sharon) Brandt, Susan Quarnstrom, Larry Brandt and Jim (Teresa) Brandt; grandchildren, Becky, Daniel, Isaac, Eric (Megan), Julie (Ben) Nordquist, Joe (Jess) Quarnstrom, Dagan (Ruthie) and Alex; great grandchildren, Nick and Hannah Brandt, Austin and Aiden Quarnstrom, Dexter and Maxwell Brandt, and baby in tummy (Nordquist) due in August; sisters Colleen Brang and Kathy Porter; sisters-in-law, Iris Bighley, Melba Jenkins, and Arcley Wahlers. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Babe loved them all!
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Brandt Nesset; grandsons Aaron Brandt (son of Terry), Cory Brandt (son of Tim) and Michael Brandt (son of Jim); great grandson, Jacob Brandt (son of Eric); parents, Arnold (Edna) Brandt; siblings, Mavis (Johnny) Johnson, Donald (Marilyn) Brandt; in-laws, Arthur and Molly Wahlers, siblings-in-law, Cecil and Lucille Wahlers, Wayne Wahlers, Doris and Tony Belshan, John Jenkins and Marsh Bighley.
Memorials are preferred to The Parkinson’s Foundation or The Food Shelf.
Babe wasn’t a suit wearing kind of guy so please feel free to dress casual at the service.
