Glenda Dawn Spiotta

Glenda Spiotta, age 74, passed away on November 30, 2023 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home and for one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday.

Glenda Dawn (Ladwig) Spiotta was born in Albert Lea on January 28, 1949, to Herbert and Viola (Wichmann) Ladwig. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Albert Lea High School and attended Lea College where she met Doug, whom she married in 1969.  Glenda earned undergraduate degrees in geography and Earth science as well as master’s degrees in urban planning and public administration. After her schooling, she worked various jobs in municipal government.

Glenda was a lifelong learner and educator who enjoyed talking with friends and family about a wealth of topics. She took the opportunities during her talks to learn as well as educate. She loved to teach her grandchildren what she knew. Her family considered her a fountain of knowledge. In her free time, she liked to have teatime with friends and her granddaughters. Glenda had a very strong faith in a Triune God. She was a kindhearted, caring friend to all. Glenda’s greatest love was spending time with her family, grandkids and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Doug; son, John (Marniae) Spiotta; daughter, Amy (Nathan) Svoboda; grandchildren, Amanda, Michelle and Stephanie Svoboda and Dominic, Anthony and Elijah Spiotta; brothers, Bill (Julie) Ladwig, Steve (Jodi) Ladwig, Tom (Susie) Ladwig and their families.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Viola Ladwig.
