Gladys Weyrum was born on November 8, 1909 in Raymond, Minnesota to Henry and Martha (Schmidt) Boettcher. She was united in marriage to Arndt Weyrum on November 23, 1928 in Alden. They lived in Racine, Wisconsin and Scarville, Iowa before returning to Alden, Minnesota. From 1949 to 1966 Gladys and Arndt operated a filling service station in Alden. Through the years Gladys kept herself very busy with volunteer work, having been a member of many of the local groups and organizations and spending her time helping others in need. She was very proud of giving blood. I wonder how many meals on wheels she delivered, utility bags she had sewn and rides given as local âtaxi serviceâ when she still drove! She was nominated the Freeborn County volunteer in 2001. Gladys cared for her sister who suffered from arthritis and was mostly bed ridden until her death in 1984. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and solving crosswords. Gladys was a member of Alden Senior Citizens and Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active in Altar Guild. Gladys definitely had a mind of her own. âDonât you knowâ and âDonât worry yourselfâ was a phrase we all heard more than once and we will all miss her sharp as a tack conversations.
Survivors include her grandsons Jeff (Mary)Weyrum and their children Matt, Nick, Sarah and Amanda all of Oak Creek, WI and Don Weyrum of Conger, MN; daughter-in-law Muriel Weyrum and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arndt; sons, Howard Weyrum and Gordon Weyrum and two sisters.
