Gladys Ruby Bombela was born June 6, 1930, to George and Luella Hanson Bendickson in Emmons. She grew up in Emmons and Albert Lea and graduated from Emmons High School. Gladys lived in Minneapolis for 10 years and worked for Nabisco Co. After retiring from Nabisco, she returned to Albert Lea and worked as the head cook for her daughter's company, Cindy's Foods, at Farmland. Her nicknames there were "Grandma" or "Mom." On December 14, 1968, Gladys was united in marriage to Joseph Bombela in Mason City, IA. She attended First Lutheran Church and Church of Christ Christian. Gladys enjoyed gardening and yard work and cooking for her family. Survivors include her children: Richard and wife, Judy Carlson of Albert Lea, Cindy and husband, David Anderson of Albert Lea, Ron Carlson of Minneapolis, and Roxy and husband, Terry Wacek of Emmons; grandchildren: Bryon Carlson of Mankato, Brad Carlson, Sheila and husband, Troy Steele, Chuck and wife, Amber Anderson, and James Anderson, all of Albert Lea, Amber Carlson of Minneapolis, and Mark Krause, Max Krause, and Mitchell Krause, all of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren: Zechariah, Matthew, Madisyn, Cadence, and Austin; sister-in-law, Eunice Bendickson; nieces and nephews: and special companions, her dogs, Roscoe and Jose, who meant the world to her. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; brother, Art Bendickson; sisters, Annie Anderson and Gilma Swehla; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Swehla.
