George Melvin Flattum

George Melvin Flattum was born on August 9, 1934 to John and Anna Anderson Flattum in Northwood, IA. George grew up in the Silver Lake area. He was united in marriage to Sadie Shargent on September 5, 1959 in Mason City, IA. After their marriage the couple lived in the Waseca and Albert Lea area. George was self-employed training race horses. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, the USTA, and enjoyed horses, being outside working in the yard, music and singing hymns. George enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. After his stroke, George enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins. Survivors include his wife, Sadie; children, Kelly Nancy Flattum, John Flattum and fiancé Mary Burhop, Michael Therese Flattum, Jeffrey Crystal Flattum, and Terri Marpe; grandchildren, Melaina, Brooke and Jordan Flattum, Cory Flattum, Jennifer Isaiah Prescott, Samantha and Derek Flattum, Noah Hill, Maxwell Brekke, Emily Flattum, Nicole Brad Edwards, Mollie and Andrew Hernandez; great-grandchild, Mya Jacobson; brother, Art Debbie Flattum; sisters, Josephine Sherwood and Gladys Ralph Sabin. George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Flattum; in-laws, Thomas and Elenore Shergant; brothers, Orville and Carl Flattum; sister-in-law, Trudie Jensen and brother-in-law, Alfred Jensen.
