Funeral services for Gaylord Luverne Peterson, age 85, of Albert Lea will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemenâs organizations, VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Gaylord died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at St. Maryâs Hospital in Rochester.
Gaylord Luverne Peterson was born May 18, 1929 on the family farm, the son of Gilbert and Alvina (Lau) Peterson. He attended country school in rural Northwood and Deer Creek. After school Gaylord worked on the family farm. On February 14, 1952 he was united in marriage to Darlene Sorlien at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Gaylord then enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he worked at Wilsons for 40 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Eagles. Gaylord enjoyed doing carpentry, loved working with horses, being around dogs, especially his dog Kira and he enjoyed a good debate. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; children Allen (Michelle) Peterson, Vicki (Tom) Loverink and Larry Peterson; grandchildren Joshua Loverink, Kimberly (Jarrod) Robran, Brandon (Amber Anderson) Loverink, Lindsay (Ryan) Lobes, Chad Mars, Alexandra Peterson and Angela Yezek; great-grandchildren Leah and Jackson Robran and Maddie Lobes; siblings Arnold Peterson, Lemoine (Pat) Peterson, Norman (Connie) Peterson, Gordon (Linda) Peterson, Palmer Peterson, Genny Kirsch and Phyllis Cordera; brother-in-law Jim Christensen; and several nieces and nephews.
Gaylord was preceded in death by his parents; twin grandsons Thomas and Timothy Loverink; father and mother-in-law Palmer and Alice Sorlien; and siblings Maynard (Maxine) Peterson, Marjorie (Ed) Grigutis, Loretta Nelson, Belean (Ron) Johnson, Harlan Peterson, Dorothy Dempewolf, Rena Christensen and Arthur Peterson.
