Fred Laverne Silbaugh was born on January 31, 1921 to Beauford and Rosella Olsen Silbaugh in Agar, SD. When he was 15 he moved with his family to Minnesota. After his junior year in high school he joined the Civilian Consevation Corp. On returning he went back to school and graduated from Pine River High School. Fred then enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in WWII helping build the ALCAN Highway and serving in the South Pacific. After the service he attended the University of Minnesota. On July 16, 1948 he was united in marriage to June Erickson in Pine River. Fred graduated from the U of M in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in Economics. He worked within the Minnesota Welfare system after graduating. The couple moved to Albert Lea where Fred was the Welfare Director for Freeborn County for 25 years. He was a devoted husband and father and treasured time spent with his family. Fred's past times were watching the Twins and Vikings, gardening, fishing and doing puzzles of any kind. Fred deeply loved all members of his family and will be dearly missed. Blessed be his memory. Survivors include his wife, June; children, Roxann Tim Satrang, Valerie Mark Swenson and Tim Silbaugh; grandchildren, Ty, Hilary and Jessie Satrang, Lee and Kelly Dickey, Kody Hansen, Ben Silbaugh, Brent Serena Swenson and Bart Swenson; great- grandchildren, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Ava; sister, Vanita Reinbold; and many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kenzie; brothers, Walter, John and Beauford, Jr.; and sister, Pansy Swenson.
