Memorial services for Elva Mae Deboer will be held at 10:00 am, Monday November 28, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Weniger will officiate. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Elva Mae (Dykema) DeBoer passed away peacefully on November 26 in the Comfort Suite at Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea. She had spent her last two years at Oak Park Place where dedicated staff helped her cope with the daily challenges of Parkinsonâs disease. They repeatedly spoke about what a nice and kind lady she was and enjoyed helping her.
Elva began her life on October 24, 1927 with parents Albert and Gertrude (Overman) Dykema. She and her four siblings grew up on a farm by Bigelow, MN where she loved helping her mother in the house. She fell in love with and married a tall, dark, handsome young Dutchman â Percy DeBoer. Together they raised four children on a farm north of Hollandale. There she dedicated her days to her family and helping to run a successful farming operation. This past summer they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Elva and Percy loved to travel and spent 23 winters at their lovely Mesa, AZ home. She enjoyed doing crafts, painting landscapes, square dancing, and socializing with their many friends. Elva loved singing in the choir and listening to beautiful music. Early mornings would find Elva spending time with her precious Lord â reading, praying, and sometimes quietly singing her favorite hymns.
Elva is survived by her husband Percy; their four children David (Barb) DeBoer, of Santa Maria, CA, Carol (Ben) Cerney of Albert Lea, Nancy (Jim) Kieffer of Greenville, WI, and Jerry DeBoer, of Faribault, MN. She was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren â Kristin (Manuel) Carbone-Lopez, Zach Pommeranz, Carrie Pommeranz, Nathan Pommeranz, and Michael (Adrianna) DeBoer; and four great-grandchildren Xenia and Thiago Lopez, Sam Pommeranz, and Benjamin Venzor. Her remaining siblings are Ida Zylstra and Bob and Don Dykema.
Her family call her blessed and are looking forward to the day they will all be reunited in heaven.
