Memorial services for El Doris Larson, age 90, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate.
El Doris died January 14, 2014 at Thorne Crest Retirement Center.
El Doris C. Larson was born September 21, 1923 in Wildrose, ND to Gustav and Emma (Anderson) Nylander. She graduated from Wildrose High School in 1942. On July 6, 1942, she married LeRoy Schafer. LeRoy passed away on August 3, 1975. El Doris married Harley Larson on October 5, 1984. El Doris lived in Williston for 55 years prior to moving to Albert Lea, MN to be closer to her immediate family. She has fond memories of her employment and friendships made during her 22 years of employment at the Coast-to-Coast hardware store. Also important to her was volunteering at the Kensington, an assisted living facility, which she did for 15 years upon retirement from the hardware store.
El Doris was a proud and dedicated Christian. She was a member of Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Williston and attended the Crossroads E. Free Church in Albert Lea. Doris enjoyed bible study, reading and doing puzzles. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Left to share El Doris’ memory are her son Jerry (Doris) Schafer; two granddaughters, Michelle Schafer and Bryn (David) Scott; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sister, brothers, and great-grandson, Will.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church.
