Edythe G. Thompson, 94, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024 at St. Anthony's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service will be held at Bear Lake Church in Albert Lea at 2PM on Friday, May 31, 2024 with visitation held for an hour prior to the service. Pastor Lou Peters will be officiating.
Edythe was born on June 13, 1929 to Max and Mabel (Johnson) Hacker in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She attended Emmons School for 11 years before jumping into the workforce. She worked many jobs, the longest of which being Mead’s where she worked for many years before retiring in 1991. She married Duane Thompson whom she remained with for 46 years and from their union came five beautiful children.
Edythe was loved by her family very much and they learned a lot from her, she will be missed. She loved her grandchildren especially. She had many hobbies and activities: sewing, quilting, gardening, woodworking, canning, making jellies and breads, and anything to do with the outdoors. She made many friends while camping, quickly becoming a staff favorite, and loved doing puzzles with her family. She was very fond of birds, with hummingbirds being her favorite.
Edythe is survived by her sons Lee (Mary) Thompson and Jack Thompson, brothers Raymond (Marlys) Hacker and Gordon (Jeannie) Hacker, daughter-in-law Marlys Thompson, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews, and her friend Dale Mehus.
She is preceded in death by her husband Duane Thompson, parents Max and Mabel Hacker, sons Neil and Ronnie Thompson, daughter Marlene Thompson, her brothers and sisters-in-law Albert (Helen) Hacker, Andrew (Darlene) Hacker, Robert (Mary) Hacker, Carl (Elsie) Hacker, Frank (Bette) Hacker, Maxine (Lester) Helland, and Myrtle (Morris) Spires.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Anthony’s Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospice for their service and care for Edythe.
