Douglas Lyle Peak, Sr.

A gentle man of faith, who loved his family, Douglas died on August 16, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Douglas was born on December 26, 1922 to Ernest and Versa Peak and moved to the Hollandale area as a young boy. He remained there until moving to Bancroft Creek Estates in Albert Lea with his wife of 65 years, Gertrude. Douglas and Gertrude Ravenhorst were married on March 22, 1944 at the Hollandale Reformed Church. He was in the armed services from 1945-1946. Douglas was a member of the Hollandale Reformed Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a quality home builder in the area, building over 35 homes during his career. His love and talents were especially seen in his cabinet making skills. With the help of his wife Gertrude, he was able to accomplish his dream of providing a stable life and good home for his family. He was a friendly and honest man with an enduring smile, kind eyes, and a firm handshake. He was known by many for his positive and caring attitude. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude of Albert Lea; children, Donna Squibb of Denver, Co; Douglas Kathleen Peak Jr. of Colorado Springs, Co; and Scott Jill Peak of Wauwatosa, WI.; grandchildren, Wendi Kern Lodwig, Shane Michelle Squibb, David J.Charity Peak, A.J. Nicole Peak, Alan Nikki Peak, Katie Peak; great-grandchildren, Jacob Lodwig, Jordan Peak, Kennedy Peak, Madison Squibb, Justin Squibb, Amelia Peak; sisters, Wilma Noble of Austin, Alice Willard Spilde of Albert Lea, and Twila Fred Norton of Salt Lake City, UT; brothers-in-law, John A. Ravenhorst of Walker, MN, Gerrit Evelyn Ravenhorst of Hollandale; sister-in-law, Alice DeBoer of Hollandale. Douglas is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Douglas was perceded in death by his parents; brother Francis, and in-laws, Lois Peak, Artie Noble, Harko DeBoer, LouElla Ravenhorst; nephew, David F. Peak. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hollandale Reformed Church.
