Dorothy Petersen, 89, passed away on Saturday January 18, 2025 at the Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 24, 2025 at the St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, with burial following at the St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Father Kurt Farrell will be officiating.
Dorothy was born on December 6, 1935 to Alfons and Margaret Kirtz in Adams, MN. She attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduating from Adams High School in 1953. In 1958, she married Edward Petersen in Adams, MN. Together they had four children: Lori, Karen, Jodi, and Kevin. They later divorced.
Dorothy had many jobs, including being a clerk with the Minnesota State Income Tax Department. She also was a waitress, and volunteered at many places, which included St. Theodore’s church and the Freeborn County Historical Society. She loved to garden and also take bus trips with her dear friend Avis Pederson including a trip out to Pikes Peak. She loved gardening, making floral arrangements, quilting, canning, bowling, sewing and sold products for Home Interiors for many years.
Dorothy is survived in death by her three daughters Lori (Robert) Kvenvold, Karen Loverink, Jodi (Lee) Loverink, and son Kevin (Krista) Petersen. Grandchildren Trisha Kvenvold, Derek Kvenvold; Jacob (Ali) Loverink, John (Christine) Loverink, Kelsey Loverink, Trevor (Whitney) Loverink; Chase (Grace) Petersen, Alyse Petersen and Keira Petersen. Great-Grandchildren Parker and Vivie Loverink, Chloe Kvenvold and Aurora Kvenvold Blouin. Sisters-in-law Edna Kirtz, Marlene Kirtz, and Betty Kirtz.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Alfons and Margaret Kirtz; siblings Joseph Kirtz, Regina Bottema, Jerome Kirtz, Fred Kirtz and Ray Kirtz; grandchildren Theresa Kvenvold and Cassandra Loverink.
The family would like to thank the staff at Thorne Crest and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent care of Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Freeborn County Historical Society, or to St. Theodore Catholic Church.
