Dorothy Wynia Groeneweg was born on January 14, 1931 on a farm one mile south of Hollandale, MN to Edward and Lucy DeRaad Wynia and was a life long resident of Freeborn County. She attended elementary school in Maple Island and Hollandale and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1950. She married Joe Groeneweg in the parsonage of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church on January 15, 1952 by Rev. A. A. Koning. Dorothy was a long time member of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church. Dorothy loved to paint pictures, collect dolls and watch songbirds. Survivors include her husband, Joe of 58 years; children, Mary Jo Duane Vanderploeg, Ellendale, MN, Thomas Kathie Groeneweg, Clarks Grove, MN, Gail Kevin Eekhoff, Sioux Falls, SD, Edwin Julie Groeneweg, Albert Lea, MN, Martin Peggy Groeneweg, Albert Lea, MN. Grandchildren: Kurtis Rebecca Vanderploeg, Jan Andy Bernau, Lonna Vanderploeg, Jessica Groeneweg, John Groeneweg, Sara Groeneweg, Shawn Groeneweg, Matthew Eekhoff, Mark Eekhoff, Melinda Jackie Cameron, Megan Christopher Cameron, Jackie Groeneweg, Nathan Smith, Jill Groeneweg and Doni Groeneweg; great-grandchildren, Alicia, Landon, Lily and Blaine. Other survivors include Dorothy's sisters, Margaret Arlo Rogstad, Lake Mills, IA, Laura Hank Brouwers. Albert Lea, MN, Elsie John VanderStoep, Hollandale, MN, sisters-in-law, Lena Art Goemaat, Demotte, IN, Nellie Wynia, Austin, MN. Dorothy is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lucy Wynia, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Warren and Esther Morrison, Bud Wynia, Pete and Bertha Groeneweg.
