Dennis Richard Overland went to be with the Lord on December 6th at 8:09pm. Dennis passed away peacefully at his home. A private ceremony will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Albert Lea at 9:00 AM on Saturday December 10th for family and close friends.
Dennis was born on Nov. 2, 1943 in Albert Lea MN. Dennis was the son of Melvin and Jorgina (Lyngaas) Overland. He lived in Twin Lakes MN until he was 18 years old. He often talked about his childhood and how much he loved living in a small town. Dennis had a strong faith in Jesus and carried that through to his family and throughout his life. Dennis graduated from Albert Lea high school in 1961. Dennis met the love of his life and soulmate, Sharon Eisenbise in 1960 while attending high school and they were married in 1962. Dennis worked for Pop Tent, a division of Queen Stoves, Drug Supply delivering medication to the pharmacies, the city of Albert Lea for 30 years, he also was self-employed/owned Overland Sprinkler Systems installing fire alarms and sprinkler systems in grain elevators. Dennis enjoyed aviation and got his pilot’s license and would go take the plane out and fly as often as he could. He loved going for motorcycle trips. Dennis and Sharon went to the Sturgis rally many times and they would take scenic day trips together. He loved camping and traveling. He especially loved going down to Arizona for the Winter, he loved the desert and exploring with Sharon. Dennis and Sharon were married for 60 wonderful and loving years. They were soul mates and best friends, they loved spending time with each other and many friends and family.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father and mother Melvin and Jorgina, his sister Shirley Yocum, Richard Yocum, Leslie and Amanda Eisenbise, Donna and John Light, and Ronald Eisenbise.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Sharon, sister Junice (Dell) Claussen, three children Blane (Susan) Overland, Michelle (Jim) Voca, and David (Jennifer) Overland. Grandchildren Jacquelyn (Josh) Faust, Katelin (Matt) Overland, Joel (Becky) Voca, Jessica (Taylor) Holder, Amanda (Tallon) Hyde, Derrick Overland, Travis Overland, many great grandchildren, cousins’ nieces and nephews.
Dennis and his gentle loving hard working demeanor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Dennis and Sharon would like to say thank you to everyone who helped take care of Dennis during his time of need and all the people who prayed for him and everyone’s support through these times. Dennis was very appreciative and very happy with all the love and care he received.
Donations are preferred to Mayo Hospice for all the wonderful care.
Refreshments will be served after the service at the Albert Lea Senior Citizens Center, 1739 W Main St.
