DeLoris Elaine Wuerflein was born on December 20, 1925 in Randall, Iowa, the daughter of Abel B. and Helen E. (Matson) Stensland. She grew up in Jewel, IA and graduated from high school there. Following high school DeLoris attended Luther College in Decorah. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Circle #4, as well as Crossroads Evangelical Free Church in Albert Lea. She went to Fort Hope in Ontario, Canada where she taught Bible Study and did missionary work through Trinity Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. She was a Sunday School Teacherâs Aide and enjoyed spending time with young children. DeLoris was united in marriage to Robert Beaver in 1946, in Buffalo Center, Iowa. On August 17, 1974 DeLoris was united in marriage to Jerome Wuerflein at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
DeLoris enjoyed reading, attending bible study, flower gardening, baking, sewing, and making lefsa. She liked attending the National Audubon Society events, Civic Music Concerts, and Tigerâs Roar. One of her favorites was attending conferences of the Holy Spirit. She enjoyed singing, family reunions, pot-lucks, and walking. Gospel music was also a favorite, as was getting together with friends, playing cards and being with family. She loved visiting her grandfatherâs farm in Norway with her cousin. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Jerome of Albert Lea; children Cynthia (Luane) Odden of Northwood, Suzi Stone of Austin, Dawn (Mike) Kaderbek, of Stewartville, Tammy Wuerflein of Rochester, Janet Wuerflein of Topeka, KS, Clifford (Cindy) Wuerflein of Albert Lea, and Jerome (Gwen) Wuerflein of Emmons; grandchildren Ryan (Sadie) Wuerflein , Brett (Angie) Wuerflein, Brooke(Travis) McKinney, Nicholas (Tabitha) Beaver, Heather (JoJo) Schneider, Hillary Schneider, Adam (Laura) Kaderbek, Melissa (Gary) Quam, Sean Higbee, Shaina (Boz) Higbee, Jesse Frohwein, Shannon (Matt) Wuerflein, Aaron Wuerflein, Jacob Wuerflein, and Lucas Wuerflein; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers Robert (Mary) Stensland of Bricelyn, and Gerald (Mary) Stensland of Red Wing; sister-in-law Frances Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
DeLoris was preceded in death by her parents Abel and Helen Stensland, Milford and Vione Wuerflein, her son Milford Wuerflein, sisters-in-law Julie Vangen and Maureen Ruble, and brothers-in-law Gary Vangen and Glen Ruble, as well as special aunts and uncles.
