A Gathering of Family and Friends for Dean L. Flatness, age 63, of Albert Lea, will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Rev. Don Malinsky will officiate. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Hillcrest Cemetery. Online condolences are welcome at www.bavyiewfuneral.com
Dean died Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Dean Lawrence Flatness was born October 30, 1953 in Albert Lea, the son of Glenn and Arlene (Burkart) Flatness. He grew up and attended school in Albert Lea and Alden. Over the years, Dean worked at the Alden Legion, Petro Pumper, and Vet’s Whoa N’ Go. Dean loved watching football, both pro and college. One of his passions was the NFL Draft. He kept many journals with all of the draft picks for years. Dean also enjoyed fishing, especially with his nieces and nephews. Dean thought very highly of all the nursing staff at St. John’s. They all made his time there special. Dean spent time volunteering while at St. Johns with the candy cart.
Dean is survived by his father, Glenn; brothers, Allan (Julie), Kent (special friend Alzada), Arden (Thea), and Lynn; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Kim; nieces and nephews, Allison, Erin, Valerie, Brianne, Jordan, April, Hollie, Jay, Brady, Crystal, Carolyn, Cory, Seri; many great-nieces and nephews; and aunts and uncles.
Dean was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene; brothers, Wayne and Jerry; along with all grandparents.
