David Clark Askildson of Key West, Florida, lost his battle with addiction on June 8th, 2024, at the age of 39.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 on Saturday, June 22, at the Vineyard Church, 18358 US-69, Albert Lea, MN 56007.
David was born in Albert Lea, MN, on September 20th, 1984, to Clark Askildson and Tammy Solomonson. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and attended Central Lakes College in Brainerd, MN.
David's life took him from the heartland of Minnesota to the vibrant shores of Key West, Florida. He made the move to mainland Florida in the Fall of 2020, and a year later, he found his true home in Key West, embracing the tropical island life he loved.
David was a man of many interests and talents. He loved nature of any kind and spent as much time as he could in it. Hiking, mushroom hunting, and fishing were just a few of his favorite things. He especially loved the Key West chickens and befriended them by feeding them daily. David was also an accomplished guitar player, artist, and a random fact junkie. He was a full fledged foodie and made the most beautiful sandwiches if you didn’t mind waiting half an hour for him to make one. His favorite times were spent adventuring with his sister Kari when she would go down for a visit. They would Kayak the coastal mangroves and hike in untouristed areas.
David had many and various jobs in his life. His favorite job was maintenance landscaping at Atlantic Suites in Key West, where he worked under an arborist who taught him many exciting things about the plants he cared for. In connection with this he was part of a beach restoration program to prevent coastal erosion. Highlighting his most recent years, He worked for a pool maintenance company and did grounds maintenance at the Naval Base.
David will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kylee Mulder; his parents, Clark and Deb Askildson, and Tammy and Matt Solomonson; Grandparents, Vivian and Chuck Peterson, Jerry and Judy Pasbrig, Milt and Kathy Solomonson, and Sandra and Gary Adams; sisters, Kari Brech, Kristina (Brian) Drescher, Ashley Cole; brother, Derek Askildson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His son Joshua Askildson, Grandparents Harold and Jan Askildson, and Joseph Kycek preceded him in death.
