Clayton was born on July 23, 1930 to Norman and Eva Doris Kleven Engen in Glenville, MN. Clayton was a lifelong resident of the Glenville area. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1947. Clayton served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. After his discharge, in 1952, he returned to Glenville. Clayton was united in marriage to Marie Payne on April 26, 1953 at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The couple resided on their farm east of Glenville where Clayton farmed and worked as a hog buyer for Wilson and Co., Clayton also served as co-chair of the Minnesota Spring Barrow Show held in Albert Lea. In later years, Clayton also worked as a realtor for Century 21. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Glenville. Clayton served on the church council, and was also a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, lector, and Bethel Bible Class teacher. Clayton also served for several years on the Glenville District 245 school board. Survivors include his wife, Marie; children, David Engen of Burnsville, MN; Paula and husband Mark Olson of Gordonsville, MN, and Richard and wife Shawna Engen of Pocatello, ID; grandchildren, Bjorn Olson, Stephani Olson, of Gordonsville, Christopher and wife Melissa Olson of Albert Lea, Karin Engen and Erich Engen, both of Burnsville; great-granddaughter, Jazmine Hensche; many nieces, nehews, and cousins. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; Norman and Eva Doris Engen Memorial are preferred to the Minnesota Parkinson's Association and First Lutheran Church of Glenville.
