Bill Veldman was born on August 13, 1926 to Hemmo and Titia Bosscher Veldman in Hollandale, MN. He attended Hollandale and Albert Lea Schools. On May 10, 1945, Bill was united in marriage to Susie Kraay in Hollandale. Bill was a vegetable farmer all of his life in the Hollandale area and was also a seed corn salesman. Bill enjoyed fishing, playing cards with his friends, woodcarving and gardening. His greatest joy in life was being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Hollandale Reformed Church where he taught Sunday School for 35 years and served on the church board. Bill was also a Hollandale Volunteer Fireman and member of the Freeborn County Farm Bureau Board. Survivors include his wife, Susie; children, Sandra Jim VanderSyde of Bloomington, Susan Gene DenHerder of Hollandale, Robert Maureen Veldman of Maple Grove, Richard Carolyn Veldman of Hollandale; grandchildren, Garritt Jill VanderSyde, Jeffery and Todd VanderSyde, Elizabeth Kevin Klimmek, Suzanne Scott Dickson, Michael Angela DenHerder, Bruce Allison DenHerder, Nathan Stephanie Veldman, Wesley Veldman, Stephanie and Maggie Veldman; great-grandchildren, Madison, Levi, Aubri, and Olivia; brother, Peter Veldman of South St. Paul; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. On July 4, 1993 Bill was a heart transplant recipient at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. His family will be forever grateful to the transplant team and nursing staff on 6 Mary Brigh. Memorials are preferred to the Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester or the Hollandale Reformed Church.
