Betty Jean Recknor was born April 13, 1925, to Gifford S. and Ruth M. Olson Swanson in rural Hartland. She attended Hartland Grade School and graduated from Freeborn High School. On January 3, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to Howard I. Recknor in Hartland. She was a resident of Freeborn County her entire life. Betty was a member of the Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Joy Circle. She was also a member of the church choir and had been a Sunday school teacher. Betty belonged to the Hartland Mother's Club and the Hartland Hi-Liners and had been a 4-H leader. She enjoyed rosemaling and art work of all kinds and attending county fairs with her family. Betty was the "First Lady Of The State Fair" the past 2 years. Survivors include her husband, Howard; daughter, Kathleen Frisk and her husband Robert of New Richland; son, Greg Recknor and his wife Cindy of Hartland; grandchildren: Brenda Erikstrup and her husband Chris of Woodbury, Tom Frisk and his fiancee Lisa Bell of Winona, Katie Recknor and her fiance Nick Wayne of Mankato, and Jess Recknor of Hartland; great-grandchildren, Carl and Ruth Erikstrup of Woodbury; sister, Dorothy Gulbrandson and her husband Ellsworth of Hartland, brother-in-law, Earl and wife Maxine Recknor of Creston, IA.; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law, Ivan Recknor and Wallace Demmer.
