Barbara Jean was born on March 28, 1930, to Jacob and Barbara Porte. She grew up in Redlands, California. After attending school in Redlands, Jean took the train to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she attended Calvin College. Jean then took a teaching job at Bellflower Christian School in Bellflower, California. While teaching, she began dating the love of her life, Peter Louters, and they were married on July 24, 1952. Moving to Hollandale, Minnesota where Peter was farming was a huge change for Jean. Jean adjusted well and loved the changing seasons and life on the farm. She lived the remainder of her life in Hollandale. Jean’s love for the Lord was always an important part of her life. Her faith sustained her when Peter died in 1982 leaving her with many additional responsibilities. Jean was a member of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church for over 70 years. She loved attending Bible studies, playing the organ and piano, teaching Sunday School, and leading Calvinettes (GEMS). Jean spent many years teaching at and supporting the Hollandale Christian School. Jean loved flowers and gardening. She was a devoted and loving wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, and great, great grandma. Jean enjoyed attending family events and activities. Nothing made her happier than hosting a house full of family and friends.
