Funeral services for Arthur H.C. Richter will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 27th at Mansfield Lutheran Church. Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Interment will be at Concordia Pickerel Lake Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Art died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Albert Lea.
Arthur Herman Carl Richter was born on March 2, 1921 to George and Ella (Bruiske) Richter on the family farm near Alden. He attended country school, and was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church. On June 18, 1944 Arthur was united in marriage to Alma Ohm at Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church. Art spent many years farming. He was a dairy farmer and also raised Pony of America (POAâS) and appaloosa horses. He was a mechanic out of his own shop on the farm for a number of years and was a wonderful woodworker. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and watching TV. Art worked as a mechanic at Simeâs Implement-Kiester, sold Amzoil products, Farm Bureau batteries & tires and Sooner Horse trailers. Art was a member of Mansfield Lutheran Church. He bowled on a league in Kiester and played dartball with Mansfield Lutheran. Art loved to socialize with friends, he was the âPuzzle Manâ at St. Johnâs Lutheran Home.
Survivors include his children Dennis Richter, Jane (LaVerne) Friedman, Carolyn Vangen and Gary (Stephanie) Richter; grandchildren Melanie (Jason) Jacobs, Melissa (Albert) Morua, Larry Richter, Steve (Betty) Friedman, Sue (Doug) Altman, Karen (Gary) Hellmers, John (Renee Bartsch) DePoppe, Lacinda Heimdal, Jeffrey (Christine) Sanvik, Philip (Nicole Bergo) Richter and Eric Richter; great-grandchildren McCoy, McQuade, Isaac, Presley, Justice, Emery, Cody, Carter, Matthew, Rachel, Brittney, Michael, Holly (Alex), Connor and Carson; siblings, Harry Richter, Fern (Marvin) Drescher, Ray Richter, Erma Colvin and Elnora (Nels) Christianson; sister-in-law Gilma Richter; and many nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; wife Alma; son-in-law Jim Vangen; siblings Marie (George) Wacholz, Clara (George) Reblien, Minnie (George) Jacobson, Freda (Walter) Jahnke, Donald Richter and Elmer Richter; and brother-in-law Howard Colvin.
