Arlene Doris (Neumann) Flatness passed away Friday, July 22, 2022. Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, July 28, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Kensett, Iowa. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service at the church. Interment will be at Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery.
Arlene Doris (Neumann) Flatness was born August 26, 1933, to Fred and Dena (Wiebrandt) Neumann in Bolan, Iowa. She lived in Bolan until the age of two when her family moved to Northwood. Arlene grew up in Northwood and graduated from Northwood High School. Arlene was baptized in 1935 and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Northwood. She united in marriage to Laurence Conrad Hauge. Laurence passed away on August 4, 1967. On June 30, 1971, Arlene married Kenneth Earl Flatness. The couple retired in 1990. They spent their winters in Texas and enjoyed their summers at their cabin on Lake Francis in Elysian, MN. Arlene enjoyed fishing, tinkering, going to garage sales. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by her children, Linda (Rick) Drescher of Albert Lea, Larry Hauge of Northwood, IA, Joann (Gary) Willemsen of Mason City, IA, Katherine (Roger) Christensen of Alden, MN, Geraldine (Daniel) Bratrud of Kensett, IA, Thomas (Debra) Flatness of Glenville, Keith (Angie) Flatness of Albert Lea, 19 grandchildren, Karen Crimmings, Kevin Willemsen, Chad Christensen, Shane Christensen, Judd Bratrud, Tom Flatness, Jr., Nicholas Flatness, Joshua Flatness, Jennifer Flatness, Josh Flatness, Brady Flatness, Dalton Flatness, Chris Hauge, Melissa Hauge, Brandon Hauge, Rhonda Jensen, and Mark Drescher; many great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; special brother-in-law Marvin Bratrud; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by he first husband, Laurence Conrad Hauge; second husband, Kenneth Earl Flatness; grandchildren, Stephen Bratrud and Derek Christensen; parents, Fred and Dena Neumann; 3 sisters; 6 brothers.
