Ardis Eleanora Mathiason was born June 6, 1920 to George and Mary (Jacobsen) Petersen. She graduated from Alden High School in 1938 and shortly after attended Mankato Commercial College. Ardis worked a brief time at the First National Bank of Alden. On November 26th, 1949 she was united in marriage to Anker (Punk) Mathiason at the Grace Lutheran Church in Alden.
Ardis was a home maker all her life, and took pride in taking care of her household and family. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and became involved in church circles and county 4-H activities throughout the years. Ardis enjoyed hobbies such as needlework and bird watching. She kept an extensive collection of scrapbooks that documented the many changes and history of the Alden community. It brought her joy to reminisce about years past and all the many changes she witnessed over her lifetime. Ardis always had a special relationship with her only sister, Evelyn, and cherished the memories and adventures the two had. Above all else, family meant the world to her, and the pride she had for her two sons and their families was undeniable. The Lord granted Ardis a long, full life, and the mark she left on this world will not be forgotten. Blessed be her memory.
Survivors include her two sons; Glen Mathiason and Bob (Cindy) Mathiason; granddaughters Shannan Nelson, Kendra Mathiason, and Krista Mathiason (Eric Johnson); great-grandchildren Noah & Bryn Nelson; sister-in-law Dagmar Jacobson of Rice Lake, WI; and several nieces & nephews.
Ardis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Anker Mathiason; daughter-in-law: Jill Mathiason; sister: Evelyn Koetke; sister-in-laws: Valborg Smith, Betty Brandt, Hilda Duncan, and Astrid Mathiason; brother-in-laws: Kenneth Koetke and Arnold Mathiason; and many extended family and friends that were a part of her life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the St. John’s Woodlands staff for all their care and attentiveness during Ardie’s final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Property Fund or the Carlston Cemetery Fund.
