Memorial services for Archie Lau will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. Rev. Matt Griggs will officiate. Interment will be at Wandererâs Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 â 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Archie died Monday, September 1, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Albert Lea.
Archie Leon Lau was born December 30, 1933 in Shellrock Township to Arthur and Ethel (Wolff) Lau. Archie grew up in rural Northwood and attended country school. On June 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Lois Flatness. Archie enjoyed farming and working for Rinkmaster Ice Rinks for many years, he later worked as a truck driver for MBE. He was a member of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church and the Eagles. Archie was a member of the Wandererâs Rest Cemetery Board and had been active in 4-H. He enjoyed John Deere tractors and mowers and also enjoyed gardening. Archie and Lois especially enjoyed spending 30 years wintering at Fiesta Village in Mission, Texas. He spent Thursday nights with friends at Hardeeâs and enjoyed fellowship after church services with the âgrumpy old menâ.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; children, Roger (Tammi) Lau of Loveland, CO, Barb (Kent) Nelson of New Richland, and Brenda (Rich) Newman of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Jesse (Kazio) Lau, Amanda Lau, Chelsey Lau, Kristopher (Tammy) Nelson, Kelly (Tony) Martens, Katie (Jason) Meinzer, Kascey (Michael) Haslanger, Jillian (Luke) Clark, Adam Newman, Ashley (Clint Brua) Benson, Brandon (Megan) Lau, Alex Lau, Haley Lau and Keith Lau; great-grandchildren, Dean, Julia and Brady Lau, Allison and Brody Nelson, Carter and Corbin Martens, Nathan and Cameron Meinzer, Emma, Layne, Cole and Sofia Clark, Sydney and Kourtney Newman, Kali Benson, Rylan and Broghan Brua and Joselyn and Kiera Lau; in-laws, Lois Flatness, Janice Houg, Don (Jan) Flatness and Lyle (Barb) Flatness; and many nieces and nephews.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Ethel Lau; son, Ron Lau; sister Madeline Hultzier; brothers, Virgil Lau and Willis Lau; nephews, David and Jim Lau; niece, Debra Olson; brothers-in-law, Marlin Flatness, Richard Flatness and Kenny Houg; and sister-in-law, Donna Flatness.
