Anthony Scott Tovar

June 17, 1985 — June 2, 2024

Anthony Scott Tovar, age 38, our beloved son, brother, nephew and cousin passed away on June 2, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City, IA from an emergency medical complication. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9 from 1 to 4 PM at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home and for one hour prior to service on Monday. A Celebration of Anthony’s Life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, June 10 at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery.

Anthony was born on June 17, 1985, to Scott and Pam (Follmuth) Tovar. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and received a BA in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN. Anthony was a talented musician: playing piano, drums and singing in his high school and college choirs. He enjoyed trips up to northern Minnesota, hiking, camping, kayaking, biking, and sitting around the fire with friends and family. He was an avid hockey fan of the Minnesota Wild. He recently took up the game of golf and enjoyed outings with his mom, dad and brother, Jesse. Anthony recently moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, where he was employed by MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City, IA.

Anthony, with much help from Robert, was looking forward to watching his newly planted hollyhocks mature as they reminded him of the ones that grew outside Grandma Follmuth’s bathroom window. They were proud of their multitude of tomato plants and were excited about the coming harvest.

Anthony is survived by his partner, Robert Johnson; parents, Scott and Pam; sister, Rhianna (Wayne) Iverson; brother, Jesse Tovar; nephews, Wyatt, Colton and Tanner Iverson; several uncles, aunts and cousins along with beloved dogs, Ted and Betty White.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Alvina Tovar; maternal grandparents, Berton and Marion Follmuth; Uncles Greg and Jim Follmuth and Rodney Tovar; cousin, Matthew Follmuth; and his beloved dog, Maggie.

Anthony was recently inspired to have a meaningful tattoo, a forest around his forearm. When anxiety, depression, or stress set in, he would look at his tattoo and be reminded to look at the bigger picture and not worry about the details. “I can not see the forest for the trees”. To all who struggle in life, See The Forest.

Anthony will be missed dearly for his generosity and caring spirit. Anthony believed that all people should be seen, heard and treated with dignity.

Anthony’s first dog, Maggie, was a source of strength and a loyal companion whom he dearly missed.  Please feel free to honor Anthony and Maggie with a donation to your local animal rescue shelter.
