Anna Catherine Trump Otis was born on July 7, 1906, to Carl and Bertha Deeg Trump in Lakota, IA. During early childhood, elementary and high school she lived with her parents on their farm near Lakota. She graduated from Lakota High School and then attended Iowa State Teachers College now the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught school prior to and during her early years of marriage. Ann married George J. Otis June 28, 1929, at Blue Earth, MN. One daughter, Patricia, was born to that marriage. The family moved to Forest City, IA, where her husband had a trucking business and later managed the Standard Oil and co-op station. The couple moved to Albert Lea in 1951, living in their home for 50 years, moving to a condominium in 2001, and then to assisted living facility before coming to St. John's in 2003. Ann was involved in women's groups at the Methodist Church, and was an active volunteer in the local elementary schools, hospital, Good Samaritan and St. John's Homes. She enjoyed golf and bowling, into her early 90's. Ann and her husband celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in June of 2004. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Howard Nelson of Dassel, MN; grandsons, Mark Melissa Nelson and their daughters Brittney and Kelsey of Pocatello, ID, and Brad Leslie Nelson and their son Benjamin and twins, Bella and Jett of Edina, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2004; and a great-grandson, Andrew in March 2004. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Home where Anna received such excellent care on first north.
