Amanda Odella Strenge was born on October 15, 1909 to Mandius and Elnora Olson Monson in Bancroft Township, Freeborn County. She was baptized and confirmed at the Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. She graduated from Luther Academy in 1927 where she played basketball. She was then employed as a secretary at Wilson's. Amanda married Gehard Strenge on June 15, 1935 at the Central Freeborn Lutheran Church Parsonage. She assisted her husband in various occupations including preparing the water bills for New Richland when he was the New Richland City Clerk. Amanda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland where she was active in many circle activities and sewed thousands of quilt tops for missions. She enjoyed both quilting and crocheting. Amanda was also an avid bridge player and liked entertaining both family and friends. Survivors include her children, Faith Alvin Youngberg of Cedar Rapids, IA, Frances John Nelson of New Richland and Gary Pam Strenge of New Richland; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandsons; sister Bernice Thompson of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Wanda Hemann; many nieces and nephews. Amanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gehard; brothers, Nels Beatrice Monson and Hendrick Monson; sister, Ruth Carl Langrud; brother-in-law, and Howard Thompson.
