Alice Rae Gleason

August 14, 1941 — January 17, 2012

Memorial services for Alice Rae Gleason, age 70, of Glenville will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Crane Chapel in Austin.  Pastor Dale Christianson will officiate.  Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  

Alice passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 surrounded by her family.

Alice Rae Gleason was born on August 14, 1941 to Ray and Edna (Golnick) Machacek in Myrtle.  Her family moved to Glenville when she was 4 years old.  Alice went to grade school in Glenville, high school in Albert Lea for 1 year and graduated from Glenville High School.  She continued her education at the Mayo Clinic Nursing School and later pursued anesthesia training.  Alice was married to Robert E. Gleason on April 21, 1961 at the Glenville Methodist Church.  Robert died when their children were young.  Alice worked for Naeve Hospital as a nurse anesthetist, did freelance anesthetist at several locations and retired from the Austin Medical Center.  Alice shared many years of companionship with Roger Hall.  The couple enjoyed spending time together in Glenville and in northern Minnesota.  Alice was confirmed at Glenville Methodist Church and attended Crane Chapel in Austin and the Sand Lake Alliance in Spring Lake, MN.  She was also a member of AA since 1976, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist and W.O.W group (Women of the Woods).  Alice enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, gardening, fishing, reading, skiing and snowmobiling and volunteering at church activities.  She treasured the time spent with her and Roger’s families.

Survivors include her long time companion Roger Hall; children, Karen Dunn of Mashpee, MA, Richard (Jodi) Gleason of LeRoy, MN and Rob (Mary) Gleason of Austin, MN; grandchildren Joe Roche, Chris (Janelle) Dunn, Nicholas Dunn, Michelle (Tim) Dunn, Michael Dunn, Serena Gleason (Philip Gardner), R.J. Gleason, Jassmine Gleason, Alexandria Gleason, Hunter Gleason and Mitchell Gleason; great-grandchildren Henry Dunn, Isaac Price, Lillie Gardner, Payton Gardner, Eastyn Gardner, and Kallijo Gleason; sisters Arlene (Dick) Cherney, Betty Raskin and Caroline (Bill) O’Connell; brother Bob (Katie) Machacek; many nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by Roger’s children, Chip (Dawn) Hall, Ranger (Michelle) Hall, Robin (Tracy) Haines; grandchildren Erica Hall, Andrea (Nate) Hall, Alayna (Tyler) Hall, Joe Haines, Jennaca Haines, Justice Haines, Jesse Haines, Landon Hall and Marshall Hall; great-grandchildren Jared Hall, Faith Hall and Nevaeh Hall; “sister-in-law” Bonnie (Owen) Aassness and “brother-in-law” Owen Hall.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert E. Gleason; great-granddaughter Olivia Gardner; grandson John Haines in infancy; brother Richard Machacek; sisters Mary Ann Yerigan and Maxine Krecker.

Memorials are preferred to Crane Chapel, Austin, MN, Sand Lake Alliance in Spring Lake, MN, United Methodist Church in Glenville, MN, American Cancer Society-Leukemia/Lymphoma division.
