Albert Bernard Hanson was born on June 18, 1921 to Gustaf Berger and Emma Dahlgren Hanson in LeMars, IA. The family moved to the Hollandale area and then Glenville in 1932. Albert attended school in Hayward and Glenville. After school Albert served in United States Army Air Force during WWII. He fought in the battle at Normandy on Day 17 and was a mechanic. Albert was united in marriage to Marian Ericksen on December 29, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Albert and Marian made their home in Glenville where Albert worked as the head bus mechanic and drove school bus for Glenville school district #245. He later left the school district and owned Al's Auto in Glenville spending many years servicing the cars and trucks of area residents. After Albert sold the station and retired, he and Marian enjoyed several trips to visit relatives and friends. He was a member of Glenville United Methodist Church where he served on several committees throughout the years. Albert was also a member of the Glenville American Legion, VFW and a past Mayor of Glenville. Albert and Marian's home was always a welcome place and they enjoyed having friends and relatives stop in for a cup of coffee and visit. Through the years Albert enjoyed woodworking in his spare time or fixing things in his garage. In his later years when you stopped you could find Albert relaxing in his recliner, watching TV or reading. Survivors include his wife, Marian; son, Larry Nancy Hanson of Luck, WI; daughter Kathy Patrick Sowl of Duluth, MN; grandsons, Aaron Hanson of Savannah, GA, Jonathon Hanson of Atlanta, GA, and Matthew Sowl of Duluth, MN; granddaughters, Sarah Eric Lutzenburg of Savannah, GA, Rebekah Hanson of Chicago, IL and Anna Hanson of Fond du Lac, WI; great-granddaughter, Krista Hanson of Petal, MS; brother, Floyd Hanson of Amarillo, TX; sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther Nelson of Glenville, Virgil Carol Ericksen of New Orleans, LA, Ann Pavlian of San Diego, CA, Audrey Marvyn Olson of Edmond, OK, and Ramona Ericksen of Glenville, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; Gustaf Berger and Emma Hanson and brother, Donald Hanson; mother and father-in-law, Nels and Ebba Ericksen; brothers-in-law, Arthur Wright, Peter Pavlian, Richard F. Nelson and Robert J. Ericksen; and nephew, Chester Butch Nelson.
