Agnes Lorraine Sherman

February 10, 1927 — October 9, 2014

Funeral services for Agnes Lorraine Sherman, age 87, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Salem Lutheran Church.  Rev. Mark Niethammer will officiate.  Interment will be at Bennettville Cemetery in Aitkin County at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.  

Agnes died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at her home.

Agnes Lorraine Sherman was born at home on February 10, 1927 in Aitkin County to Nels and Molly (Schroeder) Olson.  Agnes grew up on the family farm in Aitkin County.  She graduated Salutatorian of the Aitkin High School Class of 1944.  Agnes continued her education at the University of Minnesota Cadet Nurses Training and graduated with honors in 1948.  On February 26, 1949 Agnes was united in marriage to Robert Wayne Sherman at Grace Lutheran Church.  Agnes worked as a registered nurse at Naeve Hospital in the operating room and maternity room for 45 years.  She loved her work as a nurse and the nurses and doctors she worked with.  Agnes was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Albert Lea Garden Club, Sons of Norway, MN Nurses Association and the U of M Alumni Association.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, preserving, caring for her flower gardens, dancing, traveling and playing cards, especially bridge.  Most of all Agnes enjoyed time spent visiting with friends and family.  

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Robert; children, Judy (Fred) Loewen, John (Barb) Sherman and Paul (Gretchen) Sherman; grandsons, Frederick Loewen, Erik Loewen, Thomas (Jamie) Sherman and Michael Sherman; and sister, Evelyn Mirau.  

Agnes was preceded in death by her older brothers, Leo, Clarence, Albert and George and older sisters, Esther Newton, Alice Daffler and Irene Backstrom.  

Memorials are preferred to the Food Bank Program at First Presbyterian Church or the Food Bank Program at the Salvation Army in Albert Lea.
